PFW: Valentino Spring 2018 RTW

Everyone is talking about the new it ready-to-wear collection for Spring 2018. Who? Maison Valentino. Design? Pierpaolo Piccioli. Where? Place Vendôme Why? Paris Fashion Week, duh! Brace yourself, this is not your average Valentino. Piccioli introduced new cuts, new fabrics, news styles. The end result? A more hip and edgy collection attending to the younger clientele. We still saw the ever-beautiful fluid gowns in oh-so-gorgeous shades of pink that are Valentino signature, but this time created in shimmering fabrics and embellished details that literally give me life! The house has definitely outdone itself with a break from their renaissance inspired silhouettes to include a mix of athleisure and floral inspiration. PVC and sequins score high in this collection with an overdose of utilitarian details.

Piccioli introduced rain jackets in sheer fabrics and raincoats with a chic twist. Thanks to a combination of colors, fabrics and cuts, something ordinary like a raincoat turned into extraordinary. Cargo trousers and tank tops are worn to explore new glamourous perspectives. Shapes, colors, and matters alter to astonish, without betraying their primal function. Scuba shoes and Maison’s Ziggy Stud bag are worn to adorn the new dress concept from Valentino Spring 2018 collection. The entire show was about exploring, discovering and investing in other perspectives- a fantasy as a journey in which you discover new things. The bright, delightful reds stole the show. After flimsy florals, and la vie en rose gowns, the monotones (red, black, nudes and bordeaux) seem like the must-have pieces of the season. It was an extraordinary pink finale, filled with dreamy silhouettes. I think this was just Piccioli’s way to pay homage to Mr. Garavani who was proudly watching standing ovations the designer earned after his big Parisian triumph!
