Paris Couture Week Day III: Alexis Mabille

Alexis Mabille is one of rare haute couture designers that cultivates a spirit that is equal parts chic and fun-loving. He seeks inspiration from both masculine and feminine styles and regularly revisits men’s and women’s wardrobes alike. His work is elegant yet casual, structured yet sensual, sporty-chic yet cosmopolitan. It is a dash of French allure paired with highly contemporary attitude towards fashion. He trained at the Chambre syndicale de la couture parisienne and it is no wonder he’s perfecting his skills and craftsmanship from one season to another.

Today, he presented his Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2017/2018 collection within Paris Couture Week. Presented, yes. In the truest meaning of that word. Mabille displayed fashionable pieces of artwork as a part of his couture exhibition at the Hôtel d’Évreux. Breathtaking, sublime, magnifique. Among many extraordinary pieces, my favorites were the raspberry dream- a silk velvet dress with cape sleeves and flounce pleated and frayed organza in gradations of red to pink, the long sleeved bustier gown in midnight crepe trimmed at neckline and cuffs with pleated organza ‘fur’ in midnight blue and violet, as well as the perfect embroidery displayed in several outfits.

For those who actually wish to see how the couture pieces fit on human body, Mabille prepared a video in which you can see the private runway show in Paris, attended by the designer and his creative team.
