She was inspired by essential oils, alchemy and velvet. Fall 2017 is wrapped in black. It is a sultry rich blend, with earthy tones and Champagne notes. She worked with lots of sheer gold tulle embroidered with liquid gold Swiss dots, effectively evoking oil’s more shimmering and mercurial qualities.
Jill Stuart is a well-known name in the industry. Coming from a fashion-bound family, it is no wonder she grew up to become an inspiring fashion designer that blends fashion and beauty in a unique way. Growing up with both parents who worked in the business of fashion, she understood and loved fashion since the early childhood. Watching her grandfather making patterns was both inspiring and challenging. She was in awe of all the colors and fabrics, making little cutouts in the pattern room.
It is no wonder she found inventive ways to blend fabrics for her newest collection. Gold tulle was often fused to black velvet or sewn over a sand-hued base or exploding out of a taffeta bodice at the sleeves. ‘I think the collection is a conversation of fabrics and textures’, said Stuart. It is a rarely fun, luxurious, inspiring and wearable collection at the same time. Puffed shoulders and Victorian- inspired silhouettes resembled a young Yves Saint Laurent’s Rive Gauche and, if you concentrate fully, you can almost smell the patchouli. Both romantic and Gothic, the following collection will make you fall in love with black.
